Book Award Lists
Underhill students have learned that looking at Book Award Lists is one strategy for choosing high quality books. Check out these award lists by clicking on the following titles:
The Caldecott Medal is awarded annually by
the Association for Library Service to Children, a division of the
American Library Association, to the artist of the most distinguished
American picture book for children. These are most often (but not always) picture books.
The Newbery Medal is awarded annually by the Association for Library
Service to Children, a division of the American Library Association,
to the author of the most distinguished contribution to American
literature for children. These are most often (but not always) chapter books.
The Ladybug Picture Book Award is designed to promote early literacy and
honor the best in recent children's picture books. A committee of
children's librarians from around the state selects 10 picture book
titles early in the year. Throughout October and November, New Hampshire
children from preschoolers to those in third grade choose the award
winner. The winning picture book is announced at the end of the year. Underhill students hear each of the ten books read aloud and vote in December.

The Great Stone Face Book Award is given annually to an author whose
book receives the most votes from 4th - 6th graders throughout the
state. In April, N.H. children vote for their favorite book from a list of 25
recently-published titles that are chosen by the Great Stone Face (GSF)
Committee.

The Geisel Award is given annually to the author(s) and illustrator(s)
of the most distinguished American book for beginning readers published
in English in the United States during the preceding year.
